Director's Dialectic
Saturday February 1, 2025 11:00am - 12:15pm EST
General, open to all. As directors working with actors, we can often be frustrated. Actors don’t get what we’re trying to tell them, they don’t take initiative, or they just seem to be going down a different road. As actors working with directors, we can also feel frustration. Actors, too, can feel like a director doesn’t understand what they are trying to do, or that they are getting direction that doesn’t help.
The problem often lies in how we communicate and whether or not we are listening.
This workshop will focus on better communication and listening to create a more productive rehearsal.

Handeling Heightened Language
Saturday February 1, 2025 2:00pm - 3:15pm EST
General, open to all. Over the years working with actors, I've created a "Road Map" of different tools for actors and directors to unpack heightened language so that it's specific, clear, and personal. Using a Juliet speech from R & J, I work with the participants on unlocking each piece of the text to make it accessible for themselves, their scene partner(s), and ultimately the audience. Great for actors and directors, this workshop demystifies challenging texts in a way that's fun, collaborative, and empowering. The tools they take from this session can be applied not only to Shakespeare, but any text that requires the performer and director to embrace complicated thoughts and ideas, from Caryl Churchill to August Wilson.
