About me
James Montaño is a dramaturg, educator, critic, and playwright. He teaches public speaking and performance at Harvard University, and has taught theatre history at Brandeis University and the University of Texas Austin. He also works in literary management and community works at the Williamstown Theatre Festival and has worked in education and engagement at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, MA. James served as dramaturg for productions at Williamstown, ART, Harvard University, and Boston Conservatory as well as various freelance projects around New England, New Mexico, and Texas, earning him various recognitions, including the 2022/23 B. Iden Payne award in Dramaturgy for "Yamel Cucuy" (Glass Half Full Productions). His training is from UMass Amherst, ART/Harvard, and the Moscow Art Theatre. James is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Performance as Public Practice at The University of Texas at Austin.
