About me
Billy McEntee is a Brooklyn-based writer. As Theater Editor of the Brooklyn Rail, he contributes monthly essays analyzing new plays, particularly experimental works with shorter runs that receive less coverage. These responses aim to crack open a work, revealing its dramaturgy, rigor, and intention. As Theater Editor, he started Rail Shorts, a biannual series publishing short new plays, and was the inaugural Helbing Fellow for the American Theatre Critics Association.
Billy is a freelance arts journalist (The Washington Post, San Francisco Chronicle, Interview, Vanity Fair) and theatermaker, recently co-creating the extended play The Voices in Your Head at St. Lydia’s. He’s also created special events, including bespoke murder mysteries and an immersive event for Amazon in SoHo.
Additionally, Billy teaches with The School of The New York Times and the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival, where he is its director for the Institute of Theater Journalism and Advocacy. Billy graduated cum laude from Boston College and is very proud to be from New Jersey.
